On Friday, September 20th, Parastoo Abtahi, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University, delivered an insightful talk on the future of virtual reality (VR) interactions. Hosted by Sang Ho Yoon, the workshop titled “From Haptic Illusions to Beyond Real Interactions in Virtual Reality” took place over Zoom.
During the presentation, Abtahi explored how the current limitations of haptic devices in VR can be overcome through a deeper understanding of human perception. She discussed the challenges of simulating realistic touch interactions due to hardware constraints and proposed innovative solutions that extend beyond mimicking real-world sensations. One of her key ideas involved the concept of “redirection illusions,” which use the limits of human perception to enhance the effectiveness of VR haptics, such as improving the position accuracy of drones and the resolution of shape displays.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the engaging discussion!
